When we are approaching the day dedicated to love and lovers, in jewelry we talk about engagement rings or precious gifts.
I, on the other hand, want to talk to you about my first love for a stone.
I was little, 11 years old maybe, and Mary, a closest friend to my family and me, after a trip to Australia, gave me (to me) a small harlequin opal.
It was love at first sight.
I spent minutes, hours bringing the stone close to my eye to see the kaleidoscope of colours and irregular patterns that formed with the reflected light.
I brought it close to my eye so much that I completely immersed myself in those colours. And what colours!
Fascinated, kidnapped, sucked into an electric, brilliant, sparkling, more technically iridescent world!
From that day on opals were my wanted n. 1. In the newspapers’ or specialized books’ photos, on the stalls of antique fairs, in the windows of jewelers and antique dealers.
My gaze was constantly searching for a fluorescent flash of light trapped in the hydrated silica.
It continues to fascinate me greatly, and with its small frame, I find it irresistibly delicate.
